Mattole Salmon Group and Mattole Restoration Council, with contractor Patrick Queen, reconnected and restored a historic off-channel slough to the Mattole estuary. This habitat for juvenile coho salmon provides refuge from high winter flows and excellent cool summer habitat with abundant insects. Project support from California Department of Fish and Wildlife, The Nature Conservancy, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, with funding and staff support from the Bureau of Land Management, and tree donations from Ellen Taylor and Michael Evenson.
