In February 2018, following a ten-year effort, Western Rivers Conservancy succeeded in creating a salmon sanctuary at Blue Creek, the most important cold-water tributary to California’s Klamath River when it conveyed 9,140 acres to the Yurok Tribe. In 2017, WRC acquired the final 8,582 acres in its effort to create the 47,000-acre Blue Creek Salmon Sanctuary and Yurok Tribal Community Forest. WRC brought its first carbon offsets to market in the fall of 2017, helping fund this historic project. In 2017, WRC secured $10 million in federal funding for the Yurok Tribe to acquire and conserve a portion of the project lands. Learn More © Western Rivers Conservancy
