The California Polytechnic State University led important restoration projects including breaching levees built in the 1940s and 1950s meant for preventing flooding but only prevented fish from accessing floodplains during winter storms as well as anchoring large logs in the stream, directly making fish habitat and further keying the coho’s survival.
