The US Forest Service treated 18 miles of road to reduce soil erosion sources in Lassen National Forest in the Battle Creek watershed. Work included installation of new culverts, rollings dips, surfacing, improving road drainage, and streambank stabilization. This photo shows two common road improvement treatments. In foreground, a metal end-section has been added to existing pipe to improve its ability to pass flow and material. In background, a rolling dip has been constructed to prevent diversion potential if the crossing fails. © US Forest Service
