Baker Creek, a historic prime coho stream, had been decimated by logging and then started drying up during prolonged dry seasons, an impact of climate change. Sanctuary Forest, the US Bureau of Land Management, the Mattole Salmon Group, NOAA Fisheries and the US Fish and Wildlife Service have worked to recreate summer and winter habitat for juvenile salmon by raising the streambed to connect flows with the floodplain and off-channel habitat, to create more instream pool habitat by promoting gravel and wood accumulation to create pools, and to increase late-summer streamflow by raising groundwater levels. Learn More © BLM Arcata Field Office
