Merced River Restoration VIII

Restoration Stories

Western Stones photo by USFWS

The Western Stone Reach phase of the Merced River Salmon Habitat Enhancement Project consisted of filling instream ponds and isolating or filling adjacent ponds with setback berms. The project added spawning gravel and reconfigure spawning beds to include riffles, runs and pools. The active channel was reconfigured, meander belts reconstructed, and the floodplain widened to accommodate bank full flows. © Jeff McLain USFWS
