In 2014, the Scott River Watershed Council implemented the first beaver dam analogues (BDAs) in California. Research led by NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center on the impacts of the Scott River BDAs has shown the creation of excellent rearing habitat for juvenile coho and Chinook salmon, as well as significant groundwater recharge.
